My work is about the places we call nowhere -- the complexity of lives lived in these places rendered invisible from the outside. Informed by my own experience growing up in a place people call “the middle of nowhere,” I'm drawn to track the mechanism of terra nullius across history as a tool of colonialism, imperialism, and extraction. Terra Nullius, meaning "nobody's land" in Latin, has been used as a cartographic term, legal designation, and continues as a mindset of domination.
